WILLIAM DuBOIS Presents:
"Loss Of Control On The Ground”
This presentation will include representative case studies to illustrate the accident data, which will be sorted into student solo accidents, and instructor-on board accidents; then further divided not simply by the traditional categories of (1) “taxi,” (2) “on takeoff,” and (3) “on landing,” but instead using a narrower training fault-based framework, creating a scaffold for discussion around the issues of best practices for training learners in safe ground operations.
This session will include representative case studies to illustrate the accident data, which will be sorted into student solo accidents, and instructor-on board accidents; then further divided not simply by the traditional categories of (1) “taxi,” (2) “on takeoff,” and (3) “on landing,” but instead using a narrower training fault-based framework, creating a scaffold for discussion around the issues of best practices for training learners in safe ground operations.
As a capstone, we will discuss the potentially controversial use of dedicated non-flying in-aircraft blocks for taxi and ramp training, even though such lessons – while Hobbs billable – are not logable as flight training per the Lloyd 2007 FAA Letter of Interpretation of “for the purpose of flight” in 14 CFR §1.1’s definition of flight time.
